I am a Norfolk native, lived in Northern Virginia for ten years after college, and moved back to Virginia Beach in 2006. I’ve been active my entire life beginning with ballet, moving on to soccer, cheerleading, running, doing yoga and rock climbing any chance I got. After running many 5Ks, 10Ks, and a couple Rock n Roll half marathons, I discovered kettlebells with a friend in her garage gym. I had become bored with the routine of the regular gym, and decided to switch it up. Her kettlebell workouts kicked my butt! I loved it! Soon after, in February 2009, I met a trainer from a local Crossfit gym and decided to check it out. I was hooked from 3, 2, 1 Go. I signed up immediately and haven’t stopped since. I was initially attracted by the constantly varied, functional workouts on what felt like a playground for big kids. I was addicted by the all-encompassing community aspect and wonderful friends I have made through Crossfit. I have been so fortunate to train under the most amazing coaches. I still have many things to work on and improve in, but I appreciate that the combined influence of every coach I’ve trained under has made an impression and added to a strong foundation of practicing good form, safe techniques, and always working towards a goal.
In addition to coaching classes at Drop Box, I also own my own small business, Tranquil Flame Bodyworks, I am mom to two growing boys and a chocolate lab. After my first son was born, I took a break from my job in International Relations at an organization in Washington, DC. While I truly loved that job, I wanted to be more available to raise my sons. Having a long-time interest in natural health, I decided to study Naturopathy and Massage Therapy and received my national certification in massage in 2010. Because I wanted to specialize in sports massage and deep tissue, I pursued additional certification in Active Release Techniques. A natural next step for me was becoming certified in personal training. Fitness and health are two of my passions and I feel so lucky to be part of such a great Crossfit community in Hampton Roads, and to coach with the awesome people at Drop Box.
