We are happy to announce that for the month of September we have chosen Shana Hoffman (pronounced “Sh ai nah”) as our spotlight athlete! Shana is usually in our afternoon classes and over the last year has taken advantage of our specialty classes such as weightlifting and team training. Shana has been setting goals and making progress on her fitness journey in all the areas of CrossFit’s hierarchy and we couldn’t be more excited to see her grow. Shana gives every workout her very best and is easily coachable. She participates in our special events, a gracious party host, and never backs down from a challenge. Since starting CrossFit she has participated in at least three team competitions. Most importantly, Shana is supportive of her fellow members and always willing to lend a helping hand. Congratulations Shana!

WOW! Y’all, I am honored to be chosen as September Athlete of the Month. The journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I am so thankful for the family I have at DB.

For starters, I was originally born in South Carolina but have grown up here in the 757 since I was about 3. I attended Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. I majored in Business Administration, later getting my MBA from the same institution.

A friend of mine introduced me to CrossFit, in 2011, during the summer after my freshman year of college. I was excited to discover that a CrossFit gym had opened in my college town when I turned to school in the fall. That was when I thought $70/month was expensive! I was a member of that gym for 2 years - through graduation!

After graduation, I returned home to VB starting my career as a Management Trainee with Sherwin Williams. A short time later, I was promoted to my current role of Sales Representative. Not being able to afford CrossFit at that point, I tried everything from globogyms to the local rec centers. Needless to say, for 3 to 4 years I never stayed consistent to a fitness routine.

Two years ago this January, my bestie Lisa-Marie (“Elle”) and I decided to drop in to a few gyms and make the commitment. Drop Box was our first and our LAST stop! The support and the energy was unmatched. I have never felt so welcomed by a community, we became members of the family!

In my short two years at Drop Box, transformation has been incredible. I have challenged myself with nutrition and with different types of exercise. I’ve never felt more confident in what my body is capable of. As exciting as the success has been, I can not say I plan to run anymore half marathons!

Again, I am truly thankful for each and every one of you.
