April 2024 Athlete of the Month

Misty

Some people bring a vibe to the gym and others are a vibe. Misty is the vibe!!! Her attitude, presence and effort are contagious. Quick to bust out dance moves during a wod, she keeps the energy flowing for everyone. Her efforts are nothing short of AMAZING!!! Did you see what she did during the Open - she ditched the fear and hit the jumping chest to bar pullups like a seasoned pro!! We are proud to select Misty as our Athlete of the Month for April!

CONGRATS MISTY!!!

Where are you from / hometown?  Born in TX, Raised in VB/OBX

How long have you been CrossFitting?  A little over a year and a half

Hidden Talent? I don't know that it is hidden, as many have noticed, I know most of the words to most 90s songs.

Favorite movement or WOD? Partner WODs are my favorite, less chances of slacking and more chances of a dance party!

Best CF Movement  / Experience? I remember taking a weight training class in high school (ages ago) and being very embarrassed over my struggle to squat with weight. I tried again later in life at an open gym and was quickly reminded why I hadn't tried in so long. Since joining DropBox, the coaches have provided guidance, patience, and encouragement to help me overcome that struggle and successfully squat with weight. It may not be heavy but it’s a win in my book! Also, when my daughter joined me on a Saturday WOD was a fun experience. She is an athlete and a gym girlie herself, she gained a lot of respect for my gym sessions after that WOD.

What are your goals? To just be a happier and healthier me for my daughter and myself. Also, I would like to do one pull-up in my lifetime. :)

Why do you CrossFit? Because Chelsea talked me into it, not really but I wouldn't have tried CrossFit if she didn't do it with me. I do it for the challenge, I am a Capricorn and I love setting goals and challenging myself. While I would love to lift heavier and get pull-ups, rope climbs, and heavier lifts, I also know my limitations and I am ok with that. Each workout is a challenge, either physically or mentally. On days we are doing movements I like, I try to go harder or heavier. On days we are doing movements that I am not good at, I have to overcome those mental obstacles of "you can't do this", "you will never get this", and "just go home”. In the gym (and only in the gym haha) I am someone who must have someone tell me what to do, when to do it, how long I have to do it, etc so CrossFit is a perfect fit for me. The results are I feel better in my body and I am stronger. While I have encountered some injuries throughout my Crossfit experience I keep moving and my fellow athletes and coaches are always helpful and encouraging to do my best even if it is with limitations and scaled options. In the end, I feel great and I am surrounded by people that are inspiring and encouraging. Added bonus, you all accept me be-boppin around the gym with my sweet dance moves. Haha

Any advice for newbies? Keep showing up, it doesn't get easier, you just get better at it.

Motivational quote? If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, then change the way you think about it.
