Ginna Hartsock- December Athlete of the Month!
There have only been a small handful of women who have come into Drop Box CrossFit over the years with a baby carrier in one hand and their gym bag in the other! This amazing mother of two is one of them. December’s Athlete of the Month goes to Ginna Hartsock! She was nominated and chosen because of her consistency at the gym, her dedication to moving well, and her go hard attitude, which all reflect her commitment to improving her fitness and living a healthier lifestyle. Hailing from Colombia and a regular at the 0830 class, Ginna has made huge improvements with her gymnastics movements, double-unders, cardio, and strength, which is a testament to her hard work. It is all paying off and we love having Ginna as a part of our DBCF community!

I started CrossFit around April of 2017. I was 30 years old and by the time I had my first girl, I was thinking, and only thinking on the possibility of a second child. I wanted to get back into being in shape and being healthy. I needed to be back working out. I had a friend who told me about CrossFit and I was like “WTHeck is that?”🤷🏻♀️Anyhow, there I was with my friend at a gym in Colorado Springs on a military base. That first day 😐 my mobility and my gymnastics were terrible. I didn’t have double unders, did banded pull-ups, hated running, had no idea what rowing was, and did my very first rope climb. Shortly after starting CrossFit, I did my first competition. I didn’t win anything but the satisfaction I felt was great! I also got pregnant for the second time but this time I never stopped working out. I moved to VA Beach in 2018 and found Drop Box. I was big and pregnant and remember talking to Coach Nando. A month later after giving birth, I came back to the box and started working out again; YEP don’t worry, I was cleared by my doctor!
Since then, I committed myself to CrossFit and slowly over the years I improved all movements and techniques. I can tell I have been significantly better in general. CrossFit supposed to not only strengthen your whole body but also your mind. I’ve struggled with depression most of my life and I found in CrossFit a way out. I never realized how good this is for my soul. Since I was a teenager, I liked working out. I remember always going to the gym, but never had in mind lifting heavy weights and now it has become my passion. Every time I hit a PR it is such a success for me. I want to thank Drop Box for being such an amazing place for me and also to Coach Stephanie. Since the very first day of fundamentals she was great, always pushing me through and encouraging me to be better 👍🏻 so thank you all!
