April Spotlight Athlete of the Month-Jordan Northey

Congratulations to Jordan for being selected as our April Spotlight Athlete of the Month! Jordan is the first member ever to be selected at Drop Box with just over a year of CrossFit experience! Infact, he just celebrated his one year CrossFit anniversary on April 23rd. Coach Mike who teaches some of our morning classes that Jordan regularly attends nominated Jordan because of “his determination, effort, and dedication. Jordan shows up consistently, puts in focused, honest, hard work and is receptive to coaching. Because of that he’s evolved tremendously as an athlete over the 1 year he’s been coming to Drop Box. His confidence in himself and his abilities has grown noticeably.” We couldn’t agree with Coach Mike more, Congratulations Jordan!

A little about me, I grew up here in the area and currently live in Olde Towne (Portsmouth) with my two dogs Jagger & Sushi, three cats, and my fiancé Josh. Clearly we’re animal people. I’m also a hair stylist owning my own studio in the Hilltop area.

So I tend to get asked how I ended up at Drop Box when I live a bit farther (really only 15-20 min). My best friend & I decided to meet in the middle of where we live and give CrossFit a go (it also helped that I knew Patrick and he spoke very highly of Drop Box), ends up I was the one who couldn’t get enough. I’m also very loyal so I feel as if I can’t see myself anywhere else!

Being used to working out in a gym doing separate weight training and cardio for 2 hours per day, I was really glad to find something that incorporates it all quickly in a unique way but is also in a group as I’m very motivated by being around other people. In just the first few months of CrossFitting I lifted much heavier than I ever thought I could in my squat and deadlift! I was a swimmer from a young age competing thru high school and CrossFit really reminds me of being on a “team” where everyone wants each other to improve and do well- which I’ve found to be one of my favorite things. Whenever you see me in the morning I’m always just waking up recently so just know I really enjoy everyone in the gym even though on occasion I might not talk much 🤣

“Jordan participated in the Open for the first time and it was also his first time working with a 50# dumbbell! PR!” -Coach Chriss
