September 2023 Athlete of the Month
Michelle G.
Since 2021 Michelle has been a consistent and dedicated member of the DBCF family and community. Hailing from South Jersey (closer to Philly) and arriving in Va Beach by way of the military, she brings fun, rowdy energy to the afternoon and weekend classes. Her years of competitive swimming and dancing have aided in her succeeding and making gains with CrossFit. We are proud to have her as a member and her son, "Asst. Coach" Colton at DBCF. Congrats on being September Athlete of the Month!!
Any sports background? Swimming and Dance
Why do you CrossFit? It's cliche but the community at DBCF is phenomenal. The friendships and support that exist both in and out of the box is such a great dynamic and I love being a part of that. The combination of strength and endurance is something that works well for me and I love that my kids support and see what I do. I hope it sets the example for them to stay active and not be complacent in life.
Favorite movement or WOD? Deadlifts. Great movement to get rid of some emotion!
Best CF Movement / Experience? I've had a lot of great moments/days and alot of not so great. Two easily stand out in my mind and those would be the first and only only comp I have done with two terrific teammates. It felt like the whole box was there supporting the teams we had competing and the energy was just amazing. The other memory would be Holleyman 2022. I had never successfully been able to do a handstand in my entire life. Not as a child, not in yoga days, never. I was trying and just kept getting frustrated knowing it was a mental block for me. In 2022, I showed up and it was only Coach Julie, G, and myself doing the workout which was intimidating enough! Coach Art was the coach that day and told me to just practice trying to kick up to the wall every time and on rep 3 I made it. And then had to do it 86 more times, but it stuck! I have been able to do them ever since and this year doing Holleyman for though 8 rds of Holleyman doing HSPU.
Motivational quote? Hahahaha. Gonna have to go with Rocky Balboa - "You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
Favorite food or cheat meal? Does wine count?
